Forget WiFi, say hello to Li-Fi. After four years of intensive research, Li-Fi, a new type of wireless connection, potentially 100 times faster than Wi-Fi, shows the tip of his nose. This will greatly speed up downloads.
The ” Light-Fidelity ” will perhaps change our Internet usage. The principle is actually quite old, this idea that uses light to transfer data was tested for the first time in the late nineteenth century by the inventor of the telephone Alexander Graham Bell. This means that since the technology has come a long way.
By installing a small device with a LED to an Internet box, and its receptor on a computer or tablet, the Oxford researchers managed to achieve wireless transfer of 1 gigabyte / second, against less than 10 megabytes / usually second (1 GB = 1000 megas). To be clear, with this speed, downloading a movie would take a few seconds, one would hardly account the time required for a music album. To take advantage of such a flow, it must already have fiber optics at home.
The creators of this technology even claim to have obtained in the laboratory speeds approaching 224 Gb / s! At this speed, you could download a score of films in a single second, provided you have the space on your hard disk.
One downside, however, to its creators, the Li-Fi is not intended to replace the Wi-Fi, but to assist him, because of a slight problem. Notwithstanding the additional equipment, such as using light to spread, the connection can be made through the walls. so you have a perfectly open area without obstacles.
This technology will soon be tested in Estonian business, Velmenni for maybe a landing in our homes in the decade. An idea that is wanted, who would not dream to play, download, watch almost instantly? Would you like to have access to the li-fi or are you satisfied with the means of connections that exist today?
